How to Play Soccer

Soccer is a team game where players try to kick the ball into the other team’s goal to score ‘goals’. Players can use their feet, head, or body to move the ball around a pitch, and only the goalkeeper can touch the ball with their hands or arms. At the end of a match, the team with the most goals wins.

What is Soccer

Soccer is a game played by two teams of players. At the professional level, there are usually eleven players on each team; however five-a-side (with five players on each team) and six-a-side (with six players) are common at the amateur level.

The game is played on a rectangular pitch, with a goal at each end. The aim is simple: players work together as a team to try and score goals. The team that has the most amount of goals at the end of the match is declared the winner, although matches can end in a draw or tie.

Players on teams play in different positions, and each position does a different job. The main positions are:

The key lines and player positions on a soccer pitch

⚽️ Goalkeeper: The goalie’s job is to protect the goal. They are the only player allowed to use their hands within the designated penalty area.

⚽️ Defenders: Defenders protect the goalie and the goal. Their job is to stop the other team from scoring.

⚽️ Midfielders: Midfielders help both the defenders and the attackers. They run a lot!

⚽️ Attackers: Attackers try to score goals against the opposing team.
